The World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates, under the leadership of Prof. Ahmad at-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, released a strong statement condemning the two terrorist attacks that hit the Philippines, on Monday. The attacks resulted in the death of 14 and the injury of at least 75 of civilians and security personnel.
The Organization stressed in its statement that such inhumane criminal acts distort the tolerant image of Islam; indeed, Islam has been always calling for spreading peace, security, amity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence. As a matter of fact, such heinous crimes violate the rulings and teachings of Quran and Sunnah, which prohibit assaulting and terrifying people, no matter their faith, as Allah Almighty says: " whoever slays a soul for other than a soul, or for corruption in the land, it shall be as if he had slain mankind altogether; and whoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind" [Q:5:32], "and that you do not slay the life which Allah has made sacred, except rightfully" [Q:6:151]. Again, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said: "Avoid the seven destructive things." It was asked: (by those present): "What are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Associating anyone or anything with Allah in worship, killing of someone without a just cause whom Allah has forbidden".
The Organization underlined that such infamous crimes defy the heavenly judgments, the human good nature as well as the religious values and principles. Additionally, the Organization affirmed its dismissive attitude towards targeting the innocents and shedding their bloods; indeed, the Organization challenges every form of extremism and terrorism, whatever its motives or justifications.
In the same vein, the Organization warned against the aims of the terrorist groups, especially ISIS, to establish a launching base of its own in Asia to carry out terrorist operations, especially after being strangulated in the Middle East, drawing the attention to the fact that these recent attacks have been preceded by several terrorist operations such as kidnapping and taking hostages.
The Organization concluded it statement by presenting its condolences to the victims' families, praying to Allah Almighty to grant the injured a speedy recovery.
