The World Organization for Al-Azhar Graduates (WAAG), headed by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad Muhammad At-Tayyeb, announced that it confronts the ideologies of extremist organizations and that it does not remain passive in the face of their brutal crimes. Through the Organization's 15 foreign branches, it managed to adopt a new strategy to confront ISIS entitled "Anchoring intellectual security to confront violence and extremism". This strategy encompasses a series of religious, cultural and intellectual caravans, conferences and seminars that act as a safety valve and a resistance factor that do not only protect the youth in Islamic and African countries but also in Europe and worldwide from embracing ideologies of terrorist organizations.
Moreover, it launched an initiative to face ISIS's predominance, expose its fallacies and reveal its misleading ideologies. This initiative contributes to besieging its toxic thoughts and hindering any attempts to attract or recruit the youth of Islamic Ummah. It pointed to the fact that it dedicated 2017 to confronting terrorism in all its branches. It is worth mentioning that 2017 witnessed unprecedented interaction in terms of activities aiming at confronting deviant thoughts, correcting misconceptions and protecting the youth from slipping to the grip of terrorist organizations through spreading the moderate Azhari approach and promoting the spirit of citizenship and peaceful coexistence.
In addition, the Organization's foreign branches held intellectual symposiums that serve its mission towards laying the foundations of true religion besides its moderate approach. It is worth mentioning that the Fourth International Symposium for Al-Azhar Graduates entitled "Moderation in Islam…Dimensions and Directions" was held in Indonesia. The Symposium was attended by the Indonesian President, representatives of WAAG's Head Office and a delegation of Al-Azhar University. The Organization's Branch in India adopted the initiative of "peaceful coexistence among religions" that various religious and political currents there commended. The Organization's Branch in Nigeria successfully developed TV and radio programs to spread moderation, discard extremist thoughts and clarify the true meaning of Jihad.
Furthermore, representative of WAAG Head Office took part in "International Sirah Conference 2017" organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony. The Conference was attended by the President of Pakistan and shed light on the importance of Al-Azhar's moderation in facing extremist ideas. The Organization's Branch in the Comoros took part in a joint academic symposium with Al-Azhar Graduates entitled "Ahl As-Sunnah Wal Jamaah: A Belief and Approah". The Organization's Branch in Malaysia participated in the Domestic Conference for the Malays. Based on its role in supporting Muslims worldwide, WAAG called for supporting Muslims in Burma through its foreign branches.
